February 2023 Traffic Update and Safety Tips

  • The speed limit on 58 Ave SW (from 37 St to Lakeview Drive) has been reduced to 40km/h effective immediately. However, the playground zone speed limit along 58 Ave remains at 30km/h from 7:30 to 21:00 daily. The LCA traffic committee requested this change on behalf of Lakeview residents to increase pedestrian safety along this busy route. Drivers, please adjust your speed accordingly!
  • The City of Calgary has confirmed 3 locations along Glenmore Trail for their traffic noise study to confirm the sound levels that were recorded for the LCA in June/September 2022. The LCA study indicated sound levels of 62-68 dBA and the city design standard for the current sound wall is 65 dBA. The new study will be completed in April/May 2023.
  • Drivers, please clear off all the snow on your vehicle before entering the roadway. This includes but is not limited to your roof, hood, cargo box, topper, roll cover, etc. where snow accumulates and can be a hazard for vehicles travelling behind you.
  • Just a reminder that all posted speed limits in Lakeview are maximum speeds for ideal weather conditions, so please drive with that in mind.

If you have any traffic concerns or questions, please send an email to [email protected].

Stay safe this winter!

December 2022 Traffic Update

December Traffic Update

  • On Monday, October 24 vehicle counts (24 hour) were taken, north and south of the 37 St SW traffic circle and at the intersection of 37 St and 58 Ave (see map). Unfortunately, the fourth location at the intersection of 37 St and 54 Ave was missed and will be taken later this year. The measured results are detailed below. Traffic counts are the first step in the city process, to assess any future traffic calming measures in our neighbourhood.
LocationTotal Vehicles (over 24 hour)
North of 37 St SW traffic circle1,841; 881 northbound, 960 southbound
South of 37 St SW traffic circle4,172; 2024 northbound, 2148 southbound
58 Ave, east of 37 St SW1,491; 685 westbound, 806 eastbound

  • On October 27, Constable Wall from the Calgary Police Service hosted a speed watch in the playground zone on Lakeview Drive between 61 and 63 Ave with several members of the LCA board. During this 1.5-hour period, we observed 229 vehicles passing by with 16 vehicles speeding or 7% of the total vehicles. The highest recorded speed was 46km/h in the 30km/h playground zone. Most of these speeders were parents taking their children to school. Please slow down for all playground zones!
  • As we start losing daylight as we head into winter, drivers please adjust your speed to account for the conditions. All speed limits posted in Lakeview are the maximum for ideal conditions and therefore should be adjusted for weather, traffic volume and pedestrian school traffic.

If you have any traffic concerns or questions, please send an email to [email protected].

Stay safe this winter!

Before and After School Survey

Thank you for taking the time to fill out the 2022 Lakeview Community Association Survey. We have one quick follow up survey we need your help with. It should only take two minutes and the questions are specific around before and after school care.

Please take a moment to let us know if offering before and after school care through the LCA would be beneficial to your family.

November 2022 Traffic Update

HGC Engineering completed the LCA’s traffic noise study along Glenmore Trail in early September. The results show an increase in traffic noise at all 3 locations from 1-7 dBA during the 7-day measurement period (see map and chart below). The peak noise (L10) levels at each location for the Ladbrooke, Lockinvar and Lathom properties were 64.1, 67.8 and 62.7 dBA respectively. This compares with the peak noise measurements from our 2016 study of 62.7, 61.2 and 60.5 dBA recorded at the same 3 locations.

37 St SW Traffic Circle Construction Update

  • Construction started around the 37 St SW traffic circle this week (September 12) and is expected to continue into October. This will result in lane restrictions and possible full closure of the south side of the traffic circle to 58 Ave. Please watch the electronic signs for more details, reduce speed and obey all construction personnel directing traffic.
  • Also, drivers please be aware that construction vehicles are moving through the intersection of Grey Eagle Drive and 37 St SW/Grey Eagle Boulevard and yield appropriately.
