Rink Opening – Nov 30, 12pm

November 30, 2020

Lakeview Community Association (LCA) – Rink Opening Noon, November 30, 2020

Thank you to all of those who have provided input and thoughts regarding the safety of the LCA rinks. The focus during the recent temporary closure of the rink was to take the necessary time to plan a rink environment that is as safe as possible. As stated previously the safety and well-being of all Lakeview residents is of utmost importance.

I have received an overwhelming amount of offers of assistance to address the real concerns that the LCA Executive have. The positive feedback and the constructive suggestions that were offered shows how this community is willing to come together and work as a team. COVID-19 is a serious challenge, and we all need to play our part to keep our community safe

The result from the recent community meeting is that the rinks will be opened effective noon on November 30, 2020. There will be a number of actions that will be completed in the coming days that will address the safety concerns that the LCA Executive identified. These actions will assist everyone, on and off the rink, to meet the government mandates. Thank you for your patience as we worked through these action plans.

The primary concerns and action plans are as follows:

  1. Total capacity on each of the rinks.
  1. Skaters are asked to keep the maximum quantity of skaters on a single rink to 25.
  1. We are also asking skaters to be aware of the amount of time that they are using the ice to ensure that everyone can equally enjoy the rink.
  1. Lack of social distancing, on and off the rink.
  1. Benches are being built that will provide space for people to safely put on their skates while maintaining a 2-meter distance. The benches will be distributed around the perimeter of the rink so that the 10-person mandate can be kept.
  1. People not skating on the rinks are asked to maintain social distances and wear masks when needed. We are also encouraging people to BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) similar to summer sports.
  1. Communication to LCA Members.
  1. Signage in the area will be improved to provide clear guidance about what is needed to comply with the Alberta mandate.
  1. Signage will also provide community expectations about the common use of the rink.

There has been much discussion about expecting individual responsibility and ownership to protect themselves and others while using the rink. I believe this will happen. The actions taken recently will provide a safer environment and help us make better choices moving forward.

Thank you again to everyone in the Lakeview community, the LCA Rink Rats and the Board of Directors for their work.

Be safe, have fun “… and skate where the puck is going.”

Hall & Rink Closure – Nov 26

November 26, 2020

Lakeview Community Association – Hall and Rink Closures

The LakeviewYYC Community Association (LCA) takes seriously the safety of our neighbourhood and is focused on reducing the spread of Covid-19. The LCA is aligning with the Alberta Government mandated public health measures for the Community Hall and Field House. The LCA is taking further, local steps, to reduce the risk of exposure at the LCA skating rinks.

Effective immediately, the LCA is taking the following measures:

The LCA Hall and Field House will be closed for new bookings until further notice. Existing bookings will be cancelled with refunds or re-scheduled at a future time.

The Leisure Rink and Hockey rink both will be closed until further notice. Snow removal will continue to take place to provide options for good ice at future dates. No new flooding will be undertaken.

The LCA Skate shack will be closed indefinitely.

The LCA will re-evaluate these measures when there are changes in the guidance from the AHS.

The mayor the City of Calgary asked for leadership rather than seek exceptions. These closures are the right thing to do at this time.

Traffic Update – June 5

Hello Lakeview Members,

Please see below message and attachments regarding traffic changes at the Lakeview roundabout at Grey Eagle and 37th Street SW.  Traffic changes to begin on June 8th.  More information can be found here:  http://www.swcrrproject.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/SWCRR-Traffic-Advisory-37th-ST-SW-Roundabout-Closure-Phase-1-2-P.._.pdf

We are gearing up to complete the work on building the final Lakeview roundabout and parking area. We would like to begin construction activity in the beginning of June, and are expecting to be wrapped up on July 6th 2020.

In order to maintain access to the Lakeview community while we complete this tie-in work, we are proposing a two-phase shut down of part of the roundabout access. The first phase would close the North portion of the round-about up to 54th Ave SW. Traffic would be detoured South to 58th Ave to get into the community. During the second phase, we would close the South portion of the round-about up to 58th Ave SW. In the second phase, traffic would be detoured to 54th ave to get through. Each phase is excepted to take two-weeks to complete the subgrade, electrical, and final curb, gutter, and paving.

We are hoping that we can work together to ensure there is a minimal impact to the community while construction takes place. I have attached our proposed detour route and VMB (Variable Messaging Boards)  plan for each phase for you to review and comment on. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with this proposed detour.

Kind Regards,

Cassandra Carvalho | Public Relations Manager

Lakeview Community Events Update – 2020-03-15

Lakeview Neighbours;

The purpose of this email is to communicate status of several Lakeview Community Association (LCA) activities. The LCA has reviewed activities that have been initiated and other activities that are still in the planning phases. The LCA wants what is best for our community. We are following guidance from Alberta Health Services (AHS) regarding COVID019 and will provide updates if necessary.

https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/topics/Page16944.aspx )

The dates for the following activities have been revised:

Pre-School

Our priority is for the wellbeing of our students, teachers and families and we’ve made the difficult decision to close the preschool next week, March 16th to 20th. As you may know we were already scheduled to be closed from March 23rd to 27th for March Break.  We will re-evaluate the situation at the end of March Break and provide parents an update before March 30th.

Karaoke Night

The original date of March 28 is being postponed until a future date.

Lakeview Community Hall

The Lakeview Community Hall will remain open.

Thank you to all the volunteers that have worked to plan and update all these LCA activities.

Thank you also to all the Lakeview residents who are helping their neighbours. A recent example of a new local “Grocery Angel” popping up and numerous “Snow Angels” have been reported.

Yet another example of how supportive a great community like Lakeview can be, especially in extraordinary circumstances.

Be safe, have fun, and please let us know any time of any needs, concerns or comments.
